Thai Yoga Massage or nuat phaen boran (“ancient-style massage”) is a powerful synthesis of Thai native medicine, Ayurvedic and yogic practices from India, and the meridian-based energetic healing that characterizes Chinese medicine and Japanese Shiatsu.
This modality evolved in the monasteries of Thailand over 1,500 years ago through the cultural exchange between Buddhist scholars, medical practitioners, and travelers from South and Southeast Asia. Nurtured and elaborated in the monasteries, villages and hospitals of Buddhist Thailand, this massage is also honored as a spiritual practice that cultivates self-awareness and compassion.
Thai Yoga Massage combines gentle stimulation of the energetic body via the sen (channels) with assisted stretching, supported yogic poses and passive joint mobilization. The client remains clothed and the massage is given on a floor mat, without oils.
