Katie Getchell is a dancer with a background in bellydance and Odissi Indian Classical dance. She is the co-founder and original member of the Crestone Dance Project, which has been building community through instruction, performance and mentoring opportunities since 2008.
As a dance teacher, Katie's driving motivation is sharing her love of movement through forms and practices that bring us into conscious relationship with our bodies, our selves, and our fellow humans. Her intention is to provide a supportive learning space that encourages awareness, confidence and self-expression through the practice of dance. She strives to share her joy in the endless learning process and her passion for collaborative, creative endeavors. Bellydance and its associated folkloric and contemporary forms have been a perfect vehicle for this path.
Katie studied American Tribal Style® with Carolena Nericcio-Bohlman, obtained her FCBD Teacher Certificate in San Francisco, and has taught ATS® classes and workshops continually since 2010. She studied Indian Fusion with Colleena Shakti, and has had the privilege of spending 9 months between 2012-2014 pursuing her love of Odissi at the Shakti School of Dance in India.
An 8 Elements Datura Style™ Certified Teacher, Katie credits her teacher and mentor, Rachel Brice, with affirming the central role of Beginner's Mind in continually nourishing her dance, teaching life and bodywork practice.
Katie is currently teaching bellydance classes and offers private and semi-private lessons in Crestone, Colorado.
